What is It?
On Neighborland you can share your ideas and insights for your city, support your neighbors’ ideas, and connect with people who share your interests. Our community identifies achievable goals and we discuss how to accomplish them. We also use simple tactics like stickers, spray chalk, and physical signage to bring people together and spark conversations in public space. We are providing residents, neighborhood organizations, economic development groups, and municipalities with a powerfully simple platform to connect and make good things happen. A healthy neighborhood is a connected neighborhood.

What We’ve Learned
We were fortunate to incubate Neighborland in New Orleans. People are having fun sharing insights, organizing events in the real world, and collaborating on the development of their neighborhoods. We’ve seen all kinds of people’s ideas gain momentum, find supporters, and be embraced by decision makers in the city. Innovative community and advocacy groups like Transport for Nola, St. Claude Main Streets, and the New Orleans Neighborhood Development Collaborative have embraced this new channel for civic engagement, and are making great things happen in the Big Easy.

We want to thank Tulane University and the Rockefeller Foundation for supporting our vision with an Urban Innovation Challenge grant last spring. Tulane President Scott Cowen’s commitment to community engagement through the university’s Social Entrepreneurship program should be a model for academic institutions across the U.S. We would also like to thank the Designer Fund community for supporting our mission and founding team.

What’s Next
We are working on building a platform to fundamentally change the relationship between people and their cities by simplifying collaboration, participation, and engagement.
